Through a contract with the City of Portland Bureau of
Environmental Services, NTI is providing special
inspectors to both the Powell Butte and Kelly Butte
Reservoir projects. The City of Portland must have
sufficient drinking water storage capacity to meet the
anticipated growth in demand for water consumption and
fighting fires. The city must also offset the loss of
its five open reservoirs that, due to federal
regulations, are scheduled to be disconnected by 2020.
The $138 million project consists of a new 50 million
gallon underground reservoir, an emergency overflow
structure, a caretaker residence, and a maintenance
building. The $90 million Kelly Butte Reservoir project
includes a new 25 million gallon underground reservoir,
access roads, overflow basin, and an intricate network
of underground piping, vaults, and valve structures.
NTI’s duties have included special inspection of
reinforced concrete, structural masonry, structural
steel, proprietary anchors, and structural wood.
