Special Inspection/Materials Testing
NTI recently provided special inspection and materials
testing services in support of the $34 million
improvements that transforms the Southeast Center into a
comprehensive full-service campus, more than doubling
its current footprint and allowing it to increase
service from 9,000 to 20,000 students. The
expanded campus has two new three-story buildings, a
student commons, and library, that includes the
bookstore, tutoring center, women’s resource center, a
multicultural center, new classrooms, and science and
computer labs. Work also included preservation and
seismic upgrades to the German American Society’s
historic 1911 building for campus administration.
Duties include reinforced concrete, post-tensioned
concrete, structural steel, ultrasonic weld evaluation,
proprietary anchors, cold-formed steel framing, curtain
wall, suspended ceiling, shotcrete, and soils special
inspections. In addition, NTI provided floor
flatness and levelness evaluations, concrete moisture
emission evaluations, asphaltic concrete placement
monitoring, dry well infiltration testing, and
inspection of seismic bracing for mechanical,
electrical, and plumbing components. NTI’s parent
company, NGI, provided Geotechnical study and
recommendations.
