Portland-Milwaukie Light Rail, West Segment

Special Inspection/Materials Testing
TriMet, in partnership with several agencies and municipalities, including the Oregon Department of Transportation, Multnomah County, Clackamas County, the City of Portland, the Portland Development Commission, the City of Milwaukie and the City of Oregon City, is currently constructing a 4-segment light rail extension from Portland State University to downtown Milwaukie.  Segment A includes the creation of two new stations, and the renovation of a third.  The costs of the Milwaukie Light Rail Extension are estimated to exceed $1.4 billion, with the west segment accounting for approximately $69.5 million.  This segment will run from the southern most station on the existing Green and Yellow MAX lines to the west abutment of the Willamette River Transit Bridge.  Additional stations will be created at the intersection of SW Lincoln & 3rd and at SW Moody along the South Waterfront.  NTI is currently providing materials testing and inspection in support of the contractor’s quality control program.  NTI’s scope of materials testing and inspection services included in-place nuclear density testing of structural fills, laboratory analysis of soils and aggregates, visual welding inspection of reinforcing cages, inspection and testing of thousands of cubic yards of reinforced concrete, and ultrasonic inspection of rail connections. The project is currently scheduled for completion in 2015.
